Equinox Pavilion

    Year 1 Design Project
Group Project
Term 2

The final design is a walk-in pavilion that embodies a journey of rebirth, celebration, and growth, inspired by the symbolism of the equinox. The user begins their experience by entering through a dark tunnel, representing the shedding of old life and the conclusion of past activities. This immersive transition leads to the heart of the pavilion – a central dome – where the user is invited to reconnect with themselves, nature, and the promise of renewal. Here, the pavilion evokes the spirit of spring’s arrival during the equinox, celebrating balance and new beginnings.

The exit mirrors the entrance tunnel but is now open, symbolizing openness to new opportunities and the start of fresh chapters. This cyclical path reflects the equinox’s dual nature marking both an end and a beginning – reinforcing the theme of transformation and growth. Designed and constructed over an academic term, the pavilion will stand as a temporary installation at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for a 24-hour exhibition on the March Equinox. The project explores the intersection of design, materiality, and spatial storytelling, engaging visitors with the dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.
